Grimme-Preisträger Lars Kraume ('Die kommenden Tage') zeichnet mit diesem Film das kraftvolle und fesselnde Porträt eines mutigen Mannes und dessen Kampf um Wahrheit und Gerechtigkeit im Deutschland der 1950er Jahre, als sich alte Nazis wieder in Machtpositionen einrichteten. Unbeirrbar legte Bauer den Finger in die Wunde und schreckte dabei auch nicht vor unbequemen Fragen der Regierung Adenauer gegenüber zurück.
